Lim Guan Eng invited to officiate the opening of Dai Ichi Art Space in Penang on 27 Feb
Dai Ichi Art Space, founded in Penang, the World Cultural Heritage Site by active art promoter Dato’ Tai Keik Hock, will be officially declared open on Saturday, 27 February 2016. An International Art Exhibition will be held In conjunction with the grand opening. Penang Chief Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Lim Guan Eng has been invited to officiate at the opening ceremony.
Dato’ Tai Keik Hock established Dai Ichi Modern Art Gallery in Sungai Petani, Kedah 18 years ago. The art gallery has organized many art exhibitions, art exchange camps and art seminars. Many artists from many other countries has been invited to come to Malaysia to undertake creative works with contents that reflect the Malaysian characteristics. Dai Ichi Art Space, as a branch of Dai Ichi Modern Art Gallery, is situated in a double-storey building at No.25, Jalan Argyll, Penang.
The International Art Exhibition held in conjunction with the official opening of Dai Ichi Art Space is participated by 52 renowned artists from China, India, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and our country. Dai Ichi Modern Art Gallery founder and director Dato’ Tai Keik Hock pointed out that Georgetown in Penang, as a World Cultural Heritage Site, has been a major city well-known for the integration of trade and cultures from the East and the West since the early years. He said that the ‘ One Belt, One Road Initiative’ as unveiled by China has attracted much attention in South- East Asia and the entire world, giving rise to a lot of vibrant opportunities for development. Dai Ichi Modern Art Gallery is fortunate to have the opportunity of setting up Daiichi Art Space in Penang to serve as a critical window to the world and as an invaluable platform for artists and art collectors from our country and abroad to exchange, exhibit and discuss their art works.
He said that in 2014, Dai Ichi Modern Art Gallery held an international art camp cum grand exhibition, and set up the International Artists’ Club as well as International Art Academy. This year, he will establish the International Art Village – a place for artists from all over the world to stay and focus on their artistic creations.
“Besides, this coming July, we will also organize an International Art Biennale in conjunction with ‘Visit Kedah Year’. We will invite renowned international and local artists to showcase their creative works. It is hoped that this will boost the cultural and art tourism here in Sungai Petani and help to elevate the artistic ambience of the town so that it will live up to its prestige as Malaysia’s artistic Town. ” he added.
